  • 16 hours CPD delivered across 4 sessions (4-hours each)

An introduction to publishing; negotiating authorship and acknowledgement; planning your message and audience; choosing a journal and avoiding predators.

Session 2

An introduction to reporting guidelines (including ARRIVE & RIVER); good writing styles and habits; getting started and keeping going; the recipe for writing successful methods.

Session 3

The recipe for writing successful results, discussion, and introduction sections.

Session 4

The recipe for a successful abstract and title; editing your work for simplicity, clarity and completeness; the submission process, cover letters and dealing with peer review. 

Practical elements include:

Practice writing your own message and identifying potential audiences for your message.

Session 2

Researching relevant reporting guidelines for your next study; critiquing case study methods to identify what is done well and what can be improved.

Session 3

Critiquing case study results, discussion and introduction sections to identify what is done well and what can be improved.

Session 4

Critiquing case study abstracts; revising an existing title or writing your own; revising and editing example text; discussion of the peer review process and how to respond to reviewer comments.
